Los Angeles Lakers: 4 Lessons learned in sweep by the Clippers
By Ronald Agers
The Lakers might have picked the WRONG center in free agency!
The readers have been discussing the issues of letting Dwight Howard and Javale McGee go in the offseason. The debate of whether it was a mistake or not will continue for quite a while.
The Lake Show Life Lessons staff wants to announce the mistake that might cost the Lakers chances for a title this season.
The Lakers passed on DeMarcus Cousins in the buyout market and signed Andre Drummond.
While Cousins used 10-day contracts to become a major part of the Clippers rotation, Drummond’s play has been declining and has gotten increasingly worse with each game.
The first half illustrated evidence of this fact. While DeMarcus played probably his best basketball of the season, Andre was terrible.
Cousins scored 11 points on 5-6 shooting in the first half in a backup role. How did the starter do for the Clippers? Ivica Zubac put together a stat line of eight points, seven rebounds, and a block in the first half.
Drummond’s production in the first half? Zero points, three rebounds with no blocks.
Taking a look at the difference at the center spot shows where the game got away from the Los Angeles Lakers.
Lakers centers:
- Andre Drummond: 8 points (3-5 shooting), 6 rebounds, and 5 fouls in 22 minutes.
- Marc Gasol: One assist in 6 minutes.
Clippers centers:
- Ivica Zubac: Hit all of his five shots for 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 28 minutes.
- DeMarcus Cousins: 11 points (5-8 shooting!), three rebounds with a steal.
The final lesson is about LeBron James. Now that it is reported that Anthony Davis is going to play against Portland, the story surrounding Lakers Nation is about the return of LeBron. Read on to see the possible timetable going forward.
