The Los Angeles Lakers are trailing the Golden State Warriors at halftime and it has not been a pretty game for the purple and gold. Coming in as the seventh seed with far more starpower, this is not the game that Laker fans expected.

It definitely is not what we expected, but hey, there is another half of basketball to play.

The Lakers have done a really good job at containing Stephen Curry but it does not matter as the stars in LA have been awful. LeBron James and Anthony Davis have not done much and the third-best scorer, Dennis Schroder, has not done much to pick up the slack.

Davis has been the worst of the bunch and has arguably been the worst player in the entire game… for both teams. Davis has five points, three rebounds and two blocks in the first half. He is shooting 2-12 from the field, 0-3 from beyond the arc and has three turnovers. His plus/minus of -14 is only better than Schroder’s -16.

Twitter has not taken kindly to Davis.

Twitter reactions to Anthony Davis’ terrible first half for the Los Angeles Lakers:

Fans should have seen thing coming early on. Davis got off to an awful start in this game, and quite frankly, did not seem to play with much urgency. Glad to know that I am not the only one that saw this.

Anthony Irwin had another great point about Davis in a follow-up tweet. Davis has shown reluctance to play the center position despite him being really good at it. Not only is he great at center, but it creates a mismatch for other teams, especially the Golden State Warriors.

The reason why Davis has been so horrible is Draymond Green. Davis has definitely missed some shots that he normally would make, but it has mostly been because of Green. Green has defended Davis more than any other player on the Warriors and has been smothering him.

People have forgotten a bit about Green with how bad the Warriors were last season. This performance on the grand stage, and Davis’ terrible play, is reminding everyone just how good Green is defensively.

Of course, there have been memes as well.

Alex Caruso has been, by far, the best player for the Los Angeles Lakers in the first half. He has been playing exceptional defense and is the team’s leading scorer on the offensive end. Without Caruso, this would be an even bigger blowout at halftime.

Hopefully, Caruso can fire up LeBron James and Anthony Davis at half because the Lakers probably won’t win this game if Caruso ends up being the leading scorer. Just a thought.

And of course, Twitter has to pull out the all-time greatest basketball meme for Davis’ performance and rightfully so. He has been terrible.

The Los Angeles Lakers better hope that they get better play out of their superstars in the second half. The defense has done a great job but they are not going to be able to contain Stephen Curry at this level for the entire game.

The offense has to get humming and it has to get humming out of the gate in the second half. While this is not the Warriors team from years ago, Curry has a knack for coming out of the gate on fire and extending the lead even further in the third quarter.

If the Los Angeles Lakers do not figure it out then they will be one loss away from a disappointing season.
