The Los Angeles Lakers take on the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs in a matchup that is significant for multiple reasons. First, the Suns drew perhaps the worst straw a second seed could possibly draw as they have to face LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

More importantly, this is the first playoff battle between long-time friends Chris Paul and LeBron James. The two have often been in opposite conferences with last season being the only year that it was possible before the NBA Finals (since the Lakers missed the playoffs in LeBron’s first year).

Paul has been a godsend for the Suns and is mostly responsible for the team’s return to playoff basketball. It is safe to say that Paul is beloved in the city of Phoenix. Unfortunately for Suns fans, this is probably the last time that they will see Paul suiting up alongside Devin Booker.

The Los Angeles Lakers will end Chris Paul’s Phoenix Suns tenure.

Let’s break down why.

1. The Los Angeles Lakers will beat the Phoenix Suns in convincing fashion

This has already been talked about here on Lake Show Life but the Suns match up horribly against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers have the talent and size advantage, something that is destined for success, even in the new three-point era.

This really is the worst-possible team that Phoenix could have faced in the first round as the Lakers are not only more talented and bigger but have much more playoff experience as well.

Outside of Paul and Jae Crowder, the Suns do not have much, if at all, valuable playoff experience. Even Paul has only made it outside of the second round twice in his career.

The Lakers will handle the Suns in six games at most but it won’t be competitive. We will see plenty of clips of Paul being frustrated with his young teammates and the Lakers taking advantage of their inexperience. Maybe a second or third-round exit could have made it go down easier for Paul, the first-round dismantling won’t be great.

Then starts the speculation.
