The Los Angeles Lakers‘ season has officially come to a close and it ended in fitting fashion. The 2020-21 season was not very fun as the team was plagued with injuries all season and that is ultimately what came back to bite them.
Anthony Davis tried toughing it out and was removed early from Game 6 and the Phoenix Suns went on to do what they did in Game 5: blow out the Lakers. Much credit to the Lakers, who showed heart in the second half, but the morale killer of losing AD that early created a hole that was inescapable.
The Lakers front office is going to have to do some soul searching this offseason. There are a lot of moving parts and free agents to be and Rob Pelinka has to evaluate if this core is good enough to contend if they simply run it back.
One of the players who could be on his way out is Kyle Kuzma. I know, I know, you have heard this time and time again and a Kyle Kuzma trade has always been on the table but has never happened. This is different.
It has never been more likely that the Los Angeles Lakers trade Kyle Kuzma.
This does not mean that a Kyle Kuzma trade is guaranteed, but it definitely is more likely than before. The team still has to get the right offer and make sure they are truly making an improvement, even if they are only moving laterally in terms of overall talent.
If the right move presents itself the Lakers are going to jump on it. They are not going to hold out and keep Kuzma around with the hope that he will take a leap next season. That ship has sailed.
