Los Angeles Lakers: How LA can get Mike Conley this offseason
By Jason Reed
Why the Los Angeles Lakers would say yes to this Mike Conley trade:
Mike Conley certainly is no longer in his prime and is not the player that he was even three seasons ago. His age could scare some fans off from wanting him in the purple and gold and that is seemingly a good reason to keep him out of LA.
Why trade assets for a player who was just hurt in the playoffs while the Lakers lost because they were hurt?
While that is a valid question, there are going to be injury risks no matter who the Lakers bring in and the team really does not have many options. Trading for Mike Conley could be an option and the team would be better as a result.
Conley would be perfect on this roster next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. He is a point guard that does not demand the ball to be successful but can still help create for LeBron James. This is not Dennis Schroder, who needs a high usage rate to be successful.
Conley can get a bucket as a three-point shooter and is still an above-average defender. His defense would be maximized in Frank Vogel’s defensive scheme as well. If Conley gave the Lakers the same 16 and 6 with solid defense and 40%+ three-point shooting then that would be massive for the team.
The Lakers would be improving at the point guard position and would only be giving up the point guard they are improving from, Kuzma, who has not been the guy the team wanted and a late first-round pick.
The Los Angeles Lakers either spend that money on Schroder and do something like this or they don’t spend it at all. The team needs to make a big move to win another title and this could be it.
