Los Angeles Lakers: 30 greatest scorers in franchise history
Los Angeles Lakers greatest scorers: 26. Lamar Odom
Lamar Odom played seven seasons with the Lakers and saw both the worst and the best of times with the Kobe-era Lakers. While he was known for doing much more than just scoring the basketball, his value as a secondary scorer to Bryant prior to the Pau Gasol trade and even as a scoring option after can’t be underestimated in terms of its value to the Lakers at the time.
Over his first four seasons with the Lakers, Odom averaged 15 points per game while shooting an impressive 48.7 percent from the floor. While those were some of the worst teams in recent history for the Lakers (give it up for Smush Parker, everybody), it’s hard to imagine just how bad they would’ve been without Odom on the floor. His production slid once Gasol came around, but he still averaged 13 points per game overall during his Lakers tenure and was a reliable option in the offense.
Odom is an interesting case because he’s better known to Lakers fans for his capabilities as a point forward in the offense, able to facilitate in ways uncommon of a player with his size. However, he was an important cog as a scorer for quite some time and that can’t be forgotten in these rankings.
