Dennis Schroder is an unrestricted free agent after one season with the Los Angeles Lakers and his chances of returning to the team are not great. Schroder was awful in the 2021 NBA Playoffs and overall, it was quite clear that he was not a good fit next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Schroder is a talented player he is just not what the Lakers need out of the point guard position. Schroder has a tendency to be a ball-stopper at the position and needs a very high usage rate to be successful. That is why his best basketball was played when the two superstars were out.

Schroder could sign with another team with a sign-and-trade also seeming like a realistic possibility. Either way, the Lakers are likely going to be looking for a new point guard.

Luckily, there are better fits for the Los Angeles Lakers on the free-agent market

The Lakers need a secondary playmaker who can help take some of the playmaking burden off of LeBron James, especially as he gets one year older. Rajon Rondo was the perfect mold for this team and while he was frustrating in the regular season, he was massive for the team during its run to the NBA Championship in 2020.

Let’s get into the three free-agent point guards who are a better fit than Dennis Schroder.
