It is safe to say that fans of the Los Angeles Lakers want to see the team pull off something big in the offseason after a disappointing first-round exit in the 2021 NBA Playoffs. While injuries were to blame, adding a third star would only increase the team’s chances in winning a championship.

The problem is that the Lakers do not have the means to go out and add that legitimate third superstar. There is this pipe dream among Laker fans that the team will trade for Damian Lillard, who seems to be done with his situation in Portland.

Lillard next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis would be really, really fun, but it won’t happen. The Lakers could theoretically make it work financially with a Dennis Schroder trade but Portland is not going to take the peanuts offer that the Lakers can send.

It is possible for the Los Angeles Lakers to get a third star, just not a huge superstar.

Don’t expect Lillard and don’t expect someone who was a consensus top 20 player in the league last season. The Lakers can get a third star on the team but it is going to take very specific circumstances. All of which include a Dennis Schroder sign-and-trade.

They are not the best stars in the league and you may scoff at a name or two. Regardless, here are the three stars that the Lakers could actually add this offseason.
