The Los Angeles Lakers are going to have an interesting offseason after being shockingly eliminated in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. At least for the Lakers, they can say that they were beaten by the team who beat everyone else in the West, the Phoenix Suns.

Some would think that the early exit would spark some urgency in the Lakers. However, more than anything, the Lakers lots that series because of their health. While some of the role players were very disappointing, the Lakers were in control of that series when Anthony Davis was healthy.

It just goes to show how good the team still would have been if fully healthy.

Urgency will still be a trend this offseason as the Lakers look to win championship no. 18 next season. But why?

Why the Los Angeles Lakers should work with urgency this offseason:

1. LeBron James’ age

LeBron James has defied father time at every turn but sooner or later it will catch up to him and there is a chance that we saw father time gain some ground on James this season. While he did not seem fully healthy still, LeBron did look much older after his high ankle sprain than before it.

Nothing is guaranteed in this league and the volatility with the Lakers is especially high. The Lakers’ two superstars are a guy who turns 37 in December (LeBron) and a star that has a long list of injuries throughout his career (Anthony Davis).

It is really easy to look at the roster and simply bite the bullet, re-sign Dennis Schroder for too much money and then run it back with most of the same team next season. The Lakers cannot do that.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are definitely good enough together to win a title, but they need as much help as they can get with all of the unknowns surrounding them next season.
