The Los Angeles Lakers are in a difficult position. They aren’t exactly flush with cap space which stops them from being aggressive in free agency.

They don’t have many tradeable draft picks for the next number of years due to the Anthony Davis trade (it was a fair trade, the Lakers got a ring out of it), and they have numerous free agents which make it very difficult to sell a trade to another team.

So how can the Los Angeles Lakers get better this offseason?

While it would lead to a hard cap, the sign and trade option might be the Los Angeles Lakers’ best opportunity of landing an impactful player this off-season.

So who should the Los Angeles Lakers target with the sign and trade option?

Rumors abuzz that Russell Westbrook would be somebody that the purple and gold would love to bring to LA.

Love him or hate him, Russell Westbrook would be a perfect 3rd star for the purple and gold. The price for Westbrook may be too rich for the Lakers to handle so what about another former all-star point guard. How about Kemba Walker?

If Kemba Walker was still on the Boston Celtics, this would be a nonstarter and we would swiftly move on, but with Walker now a member of a rebuilding Oklahoma City Thunder team, maybe it is time for the Lakers to approach OKC with a mutually beneficial deal that would land the Lakers the 3rd star in Walker and some pieces that OKC would find attractive.

Here is the trade scenario.
