Kemba Walker gives the Los Angeles Lakers a third star and third scorer

Love him or hate him, since his 2nd year in the league, Kemba Walker has been a certified bucket getter.

With a career average of 20 PPG, Kemba brings the ideal scoring punch that the Lakers have been calling out for since they brought LeBron James and Anthony Davis together.

The Lakers tried to replicate the 3rd scorer by using a scorer by committee mindset.

Their thought process was bringing the likes of Kyle Kuzma, Dennis Schröder, and Montrezl Harrell together, and on a given night that one of the three players would step up to the plate or as a group they would add the 3rd scoring punch that the Lakers required.

Unfortunately, that did not happen consistently enough for the Lakers liking. When you play with LeBron James and Anthony Davis, asking 3 players to score 20 PPG when the vast majority of the time the ball is in LeBron and AD’s hands is unrealistic.

Adding Kemba Walker streamlines the process of scoring by committee and allows the Lakers to bring in someone who since coming into the NBA has been able to score consistently from season to season without a significant drop-off.

Yes, there are potential worries about Walker’s ability to stay healthy but looking at his track record before up until Boston,  he was able to stay healthy consistently.

The Lakers would not be asking him to do as much as his previous stops in the NBA. LeBron and Anthony Davis will be the main scorers and Kemba’s job will be to continue to average around 20 a night and the Lakers will be happy enough with that output.
