Los Angeles Lakers: 2 free-agent targets who played for Frank Vogel
By Jason Reed
Frank Vogel has been a perfect coaching hire for the Los Angeles Lakers. His job is admittedly easier as he has two superstars in LeBron James and Anthony Davis but he is still exactly the coach that the Lakers needed to bring in.
Vogel is one of the better Xs and Os coaches in the league, particularly when it comes to the defensive side of things. The Lakers definitely have talented defensive players but they have only been maximized by Vogel’s schemes and rotations.
Vogel was a source of contention among fans last year as his rotations, especially in the NBA Playoffs, were not the best. To be fair to Vogel, he nailed the rotations in the championship year and it is hard to find a set rotation when there are six new players in the rotation from the previous year and you did not get a chance to see how they mesh with the stars because of injuries.
To avoid that, the Los Angeles Lakers could target free agents that Frank Vogel is familiar with.
There are two notable free-agent targets this offseason that have played under Frank Vogel in the past. Both of them played for him on the Orlando Magic, not the Indiana Pacers, and were teammates.
The Lakers could sign both of these players as well. One is a potential mid-level exception target, although he could raise his price higher than the MLE, and the other is a veteran minimum target.
