The Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of things to figure out this offseason. The Lakers have 10 free agents (with one player option) this offseason and it is more than likely that next season’s team is far different than the team that was eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in round one of the NBA Playoffs.

The core will obviously still be LeBron James and Anthony Davis and there will be other players who are brought back as well. But at the end of the day, this is a team that is going to undergo a retooling and it is up to Rob Pelinka to make sure that the team improves in that retooling.

Free agency is going to be a necessary tool for the Lakers to turn to. The problem is that the Lakers do not have that much financial flexibility. The team can utilize the mid-level exception and minimum contracts. If the right situation presents itself, the Lakers could even pull off a sign-and-trade deal centered around Dennis Schroder.

That is really it, though.

The Los Angeles Lakers do not have a tremendous amount of options.

With that being said, the Lakers very well could look to target free agents that are on other contending teams to not only add depth to the Lakers’ rotation but to make the other contender worse in the process.

It is a matter of simple addition and subtraction.

As we head into free agency there are four upcoming free agents from contending teams that the Los Angeles Lakers could try and sign away.
