Los Angeles Lakers: 3 free-agent guards to sign before Isaiah Thomas
By Jason Reed
Former MVP candidate Isaiah Thomas has been in the NBA news cycle in recent days. Thomas dropped 81 points in a Jawsover pro-am event and it got basketball fans thinking why he is not employed on an NBA team.
Following the 81-point game, and seeing speculation online amongst fans, I wrote about why the Los Angeles Lakers should absolutely not pursue signing Thomas. Some readers were skeptical, saying that there was no reason to even write about it because it would never happen.
It now has legs.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that among the various free-agent possibilities, the Lakers are weighing the option of signing Isaiah Thomas. It is not as ridiculous as it may have seemed.
The Los Angeles Lakers should go in a different direction in free agency.
Stein did not report that the Laker sare honing in on Thomas and that he is a frontrunner to be signed. Simply that the Lakers are weighing the potential of signing him among other potential free-agent targets.
The Lakers should go with the other targets. While I personally thought the next signing would be a power forward, perhaps the team views the backcourt as a bigger source of need, hence the reason why they would be considering Thomas.
If that is the case, there are several realistic free-agent guards who would add more to this team than Thomas would. As much as I would love to see Josh Hart return to LA, I doubt New Orleans lets him walk as a restricted free agent on a minimum deal.
Here are three guards who would be better signings than Isaiah Thomas.
