If Dennis Schroder had talked to KCP, he might not be a in a Lakers uniform, but would have got more money!

Remember back when Rob Pelinka called Kentavious Caldwell-Pope “Manna from Heaven”? Well KCP was put into that situation by signing a one-year $17.8 million contract with the Lakers betting on himself in restricted free agency while turning down a five-year, $80 million extension from the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons renounced the offer and their rights on him and flat out wouldn’t offer their max at $105 million.

Most players would have taken the long-term deal. Caldwell-Pope didn’t and ended up receiving a higher base salary that season than he would have gotten with the $80 million extension.

Confused yet? Who can blame you. That’s why Lake Show Life will let NBA Cap guru, Larry Coon explain via his CBA FAQ.

The qualifying offer is a standing offer for a one-year guaranteed contract, which becomes a regular contact if the player decides to sign it. This ensures that the team does not gain the right of first refusal without offering a contract themselves. The amount of the qualifying offer depends on the situation…”"

At any rate, KCP resigned to the Lakers at a much lower rate in his next contract for more security and even got a NBA title out of the deal.

Still not convinced yet to stop clowning Dennis Schroder Lakers fans? $75 million is a ton on money and he lost more than Noel and KCP won out right? Well, it’s time to start looking at the dark stories of players losing money. Read on…
