2. Wesley Matthews adds the wing depth that the Los Angeles Lakers are looking for
The Los Angeles Lakers are seemingly looking to add more wing depth this offseason and it makes sense for the team to do so. There is no such thing as having too much wing depth, so even if they already have several options on the roster, it is important to make sure there are as many options as possible.
Personally, I would like to see the team pursue a power forward or center before a wing. The team is a bit thin at the power forward position behind Anthony Davis and could be even thinner in the frontcourt if Marc Gasol does not play, which is a possibility.
However, there are free-agent big men options for the team to explore if that is the case that could be coupled with a Matthews signing. Gasol not playing would also open up a roster spot, so it is not restricting at all.
We know the Lakers are looking at adding wing depth as they have been connected to James Ennis. Ennis is a typical three and D player that is arguably a notch below Matthews, even if he regressed a bit last season.
The talent is close, though, and it is not absurd to think that Ennis is the better fit for the Lakers. However, there is a tiebreaking x-factor that is in favor of Matthews.
