The Los Angeles Lakers roster is much different than it was last season and it has continued to evolve over the offseason. Despite being restricted financially with three max contracts, the Lakers were able to build out one of the deepest rosters in the league.

That being said, the team still has one more spot to fill. The Lakers roster currently stands at 13 players after trading Marc Gasol and it won’t be filled by Wang Zhelin. It is widely accepted that the team will save the 15th roster spot for an in-season move, but what about the 14th roster spot?

The expectation is that the Lakers will likely choose from whoever stands out in training camp as the training camp rosters are 20 players deep.

But which position are the Los Angeles Lakers most likely to sign next?

Let’s rank them by likelihood, shall we?

5. Point guard

There is zero chance that the Los Angeles Lakers will sign another point guard before the season after the team added Rajon Rondo. The Lakers are three-deep at the position with Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Nunn and Rondo. That is not including LeBron James and Talen Horton-Tucker, who can operate as the point guard in certain circumstances.

Westbrook is going to take a big chunk of the minutes, Nunn will get the majority thereafter and Rondo is a veteran presence who adds depth and another playoff option to the mix.

It would be legitimately shocking if the Los Angeles Lakers signed a point guard for the 14th roster spot as it would simply be a wasted opportunity.
