3 goals for Austin Reaves in his rookie year with the Los Angeles Lakers
Goal 2: Develop his shot with the Lakers.
The Lakers don’t have issues with scoring. With a lineup that features LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook, the scoring will come. It’s more so about finding a successful way to run the offense around players who have no issue with having the ball in their hands.
Austin Reaves isn’t going to be competing with any big names on the roster for minutes. He’s not to the point where he’s a threat on the offensive end. Reaves scored 10 points on Tuesday and went 3-for-6 from the field and 2-for-4 from the three-point line. That’s not bad at all.
Austin isn’t necessarily known as a player that can pull up from behind the arc, but his mid-range jumper is pretty solid. Let’s remember what team he’s on. The help to assist him with his shot is there, so this is a very attainable goal.
Reaves attempted his most three-pointers in one season during 2019-20, when he shot 25.9 percent off of 162 attempts. His minutes increased after he transferred to Oklahoma, which led to his three-point attempts increasing. Austin has gotten his reps in during the offseason and preseason and luckily has 82 games and countless practices during the regular season to work on this craft.
In Friday’s loss to the Warriors, Reaves shot 3-for-4 from behind the arc. He knocked down those three-pointers in a row which is important because a lot of the game today has translated to what can be done from long.
Reaves ability to knock down these types of shots is definitely going to come in handy.
