The story from the Los Angeles Lakers’ win:

The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t actually blow a lead…even though they tried!

As bad as the Lakers record shows, the most frustrating thing is how many blown leads have been accumulated this year. After being a horrible third-quarter team for most of the season, the Lakers used a 16-0 run to make it look like they would blow the Pistons out of the arena.

Instead, the Lakers allowed Detroit to outscore them 36-27 for the final total.

The Big 3 is good enough to beat really bad teams by themselves!

The Lakers won this game because LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook outlasted Jerami Grant. That’s it. Plus there really is an NBA coach in Dwane Casey that has worse rotation patterns than Frank Vogel. Outside of slowing Grant, he allowed a hot shooter in Trey Lyles only 17 minutes!

What kept this game close was the lack of production from the Lakers bench. It’s going to hurt the writer but this can’t happen on a consistent basis.

  • Carmelo Anthony: 0 points (0-7 shooting!), 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
  • Malik Monk: 2 points (1-5 shooting!), 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
  • Wayne Ellington: 5 points (2-4 shooting!) with an assist and a steal.

Outside of Talen Horton-Tucker who finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, the bench was terrible (Austin Reaves doesn’t count!) and contributed little. The Pistons bench ran up 42 points.
