The Los Angeles Lakers rumors are really starting to pick up with the NBA trade deadline around the corner. What makes the Lakers rumors even more prominent than other years is the fact that this team has been insanely disappointing and needs to improve in any way possible.

It was reported earlier in the season that the Los Angeles Lakers could be interested in trading for Detroit’s Jerami Grant. We broke down why we didn’t think that was a smart idea for the Lakers but it would not be the first time that the Lakers made a move that was the smartest.

There have also been recent rumors around the Atlanta Hawks and Cam Reddish that seemed to ruin the chances of the Lakers trading for Grant. While the Hawks could probably still outbid the Lakers for Grant with a Reddish package, they have not been named as one of the teams that are interested in Jerami Grant alongside the Los Angeles Lakers.

Lakers rumors: Los Angeles has competition in the Jerami Grant market.

Shams Charania of The Athletic added several new teams into the fold. Charania reported that the Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers and New York Knicks are also interested in potentially trading for Grant. This is not the first similar trade target between the Lakers and Knicks as both teams are also reportedly interested in Myles Turner.

This obviously reduces the chances of the Lakers trading for Grant. The team has the contracts that it can offer as it can package together Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn and a minimum contract (as well as draft capital) for Grant.

The money works in that deal and it is not hard to see Detroit taking that deal if it was the only one on the table. However, considering these Lakers rumors indicate that the Lakers are not alone, this is not going to be the only deal on the table.

This is part of the problem for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. The team only has so much it can trade and because of the way the roster is constructed (thanks to the Russell Westbrook trade), the Lakers do not have as many assets as they had before.

Malik Monk was destined to be the next Lakers star. dark. Next

Heck, if the team just did nothing and re-signed some players and brought in the same veteran minimum guys they would at least have some assets to trade. Instead, they have nothing and easily seem like the last place team in this race for Jerami Grant’s services.
