5 coaches to replace Frank Vogel in the summer if the Lakers fire him
Possible Frank Vogel replacement for the Los Angeles Lakers: Terry Stotts: Dwane Casey
While not a free agent head coach currently as he is still very much the head coach of the Detroit Pistons, Casey is definitely a coach to keep an eye on as a potential HC for the Los Angeles Lakers, especially come the off-season.
When you look at the timeline of Dwane Casey and the Detroit Pistons, they don’t seem to match up.
Dwane Casey was brought in as a win-now coach for the Detroit Pistons, The Pistons had Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, and Luke Kennard. While that team didn’t scream a championship contender, it did have a borderline playoff team potential.
In year one, Casey brought the Pistons to the 8th seed.
Since then, the Pistons have not made the playoffs. The Pistons organization more so than Casey has been at fault.
With Cade Cunningham now the shining beacon for the Pistons moving forward and a team that is very much in youth and rebuild mode, is Casey the right man for the job?
If the answer is no, then the Los Angeles Lakers could be a very good new home for Casey.
The former head coach of the year has an attractive style of fast-paced basketball.
In short, get the ball and go!
Casey likes his teams to play with pace, he values the corner 3-point shots, this could be beneficial for the likes of Russell Westbrook as the corner 3 is the only shot beyond scoring around the rim that he is able to make with any consistency.
In the half-court offense, Dwane Casey’s offense involves a very healthy dose of drive-and-kick opportunities and overall ball movement.
With LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook all huge threats when they are driving to the rim, filling the corners out with good 3-point shooters could lead to the Lakers getting easy offense in the flow of the game.
Add onto that a very impactful pick and roll game and the Casey offense might be a really good fit for the personnel that the Lakers currently have.
Could Casey and the Pistons come to an agreement to part ways? Would the Los Angeles Lakers have to give compensation to the Pistons?
This is all unknown, but if they can make it happen then it could be a very fruitful and interesting coming together.
