Possible Frank Vogel replacement for the Los Angeles Lakers: Mike D’Antoni

Could the Los Angeles Lakers bring back a blast from the past in Mike D’Antoni? Crazier things have happened.

I don’t think anyone would have expected Dwight Howard to return to the Lakers once let alone twice in his career and now be a crowd favorite in Staples.

Could D’Antoni now with a vastly different squad coach the Lakers to success?

Certain things would need to occur for that to happen. While D’Antoni is clearly a fantastic offensive mind in the NBA, he would need to hire an associate head coach whose sole purpose is to run the Lakers defense.

Good options to be his defensive guru would be a former assistant of his in Steve Clifford who did a good job with the Orlando Magic recently, Clifford had the Magic play hard on defense and hopefully, the two could work together to coach this Lakers team to victory.

D’Antoni does run a fast-paced offense that maximizes 3-point shooting and gives its point guard the room to create. This was done to great effect with Steve Nash in Phoenix.

With an older roster, the Lakers would not be running up and down the floor as often as D’Antoni would like.

This option would be the least palatable option amongst everyone involved.

D’Antoni did not mesh well with the Lakers squad he had, his tenure with the purple and gold left a bad taste in both his and the Laker’s mouths.

The hope for everyone is that the Lakers figure out what has been ailing them. Frank Vogel is a very good coach, Lakersnation wants to see Vogel and this Lakers team succeed.

Coach Vogel brought a championship back to LA in very difficult times for Lakernsation (R.I.P Kobe), Lakers fans want to give him the benefit of the doubt, however, if by season end the Lakers have not turned it around, expect Vogel to be the next in line of former Lakers head coaches.
