It was reported on Monday that the NBA would be reinstating Tyreke Evans, who was suspended in 2019 for a drug policy violation. Evans is free to negotiate with teams and can be signed as soon as Friday, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Los Angeles Lakers are in a position to get help in any way they can and while it might not seem like good business to sign someone who has not played in nearly three years, the team should ultimately take a chance on Tyreke Evans.

Here are three reasons why the Los Angeles Lakers should sign Tyreke Evans:

1. He can’t be much worse than Kent Bazemore

There are several players who are up to be cut by the Los Angeles Lakers if they make any additions for the rest of the season. In terms of a replacement, Evans would essentially take over Bazemore’s spot in the rotation… at least, the spot he was meant to have.

Bazemore has been horrendous for the Lakers this season so much to the point that he no longer plays any meaningful minutes. It cannot get any worse than that and even if Evans comes in and is just as bad the Lakers can simply not play him like with Bazemore.

If the Lakers are choosing between Evans and Bazemore then they should pick Evans every single time. Sure, his production is more of an unknown but just because the Lakers know that Bazemore is going to be bad doesn’t mean they should take him over Evans.

However, the decision would be more nuanced than just Evans vs. Bazemore.
