The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a huge blow in Wednesday night’s win over the Utah Jazz as Anthony Davis went down with an ankle injury. Luckily, the Lakers avoided disaster as the X-rays on AD’s ankle came back negative and he should not miss a significant amount of time. His timeline to return is at least two weeks. It could have been much worse.

While the time that AD is going to miss might not be that significant, it still hammers home the point that the star forward cannot stay healthy. Davis has a long injury history to his name and the entire reason why the team lost in the first round last year was because he could not stay healthy.

We often talk about the Lakers needing to lessen LeBron James’ workload but perhaps we should be having this conversation about Anthony Davis. It is no coincidence that the one year that the Lakers won, and Davis stayed completely healthy, was the season that was delayed by six months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the Anthony Davis injury, the Los Angeles Lakers need to add depth at power forward.

The Lakers do not have a true power forward behind Anthony Davis and even as he returns the team needs to be careful with his workload. To help Davis stay healthy, the Lakers should be looking for someone who can take some minutes at the four and actually be a power forward.

The buyout market is not plentiful this season but there are still some potential options for the team to consider.
