Lakers news: Carmelo Anthony’s recent comments are very concerning
By Jason Reed
Carmelo Anthony has been a bright spot for the Los Angeles Lakers this season and is one of few role players who have actually been a positive impact on the team. In fact, Carmelo has the third-best on/off net rating of any player on the Lakers.
While Carmelo has been one of the only positives to come from this season, his recent comments about the team should be concerning for every single Laker fan, who are already concerned with the team as is.
Carmelo spoke to the media following the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers and among the slew of things he said, he mentioned the level of frustration that he feels in the Lakers locker room. You would expect the team to be very frustrated considering it is the ninth seed in the Western Conference after being title favorites, right?
Wrong. Carmelo sees no frustration with his team as he said the following (h/t Lakers Nation):
"“There’s no level of frustration. Maybe, but we don’t see it. I don’t see it. We don’t feel it. We know who we are. We know our potential.”"
That is a problem.
Carmelo Anthony and the Lakers absolutely should be frustrated!
This is another example of the Lakers seemingly caring less about their success this season than the fans do. Despite all of the struggles all season long it has seemed like internally they are confident that they can turn it on when it matters most.
If that is the case then the Lakers simply have unfounded confidence. The team has done nothing this season to convince anyone that they can win two do-or-die games in the play-in, let alone win a single playoff series against any of the teams in the top six.
While keeping a calm head and taking things one game at a time is helpful, perhaps if the Lakers had some frustration they would actually play with fire and win some of these games. All season long it has felt like the Lakers really couldn’t care less whether they won or lost on a certain night and it is catching up to the team.
You cannot just coast through the regular season then get to the play-in and expect things to suddenly flip. Sure, the team has been dealing with injuries but nearly every team in the league deals with injuries and the Lakers have shown no adversity to overcome the hand they have been dealt.
What will it take for the Lakers to be frustrated? Will it finally click after their vacation to Cabo is over and they are sitting on their couch watching the NBA Finals? You would think veterans like Anthony would be extra frustrated considering he has never won a title. Nope.
Laker fans should be extremely frustrated with the team’s lack of frustration. It is sad when it has felt like the fanbase cares way more than the actual team does all season long.
