Los Angeles Lakers news Frank Vogel
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports – Los Angeles Lakers /

Less than two calendar years after winning the 17th NBA Championship in franchise history, the Los Angeles Lakers fired the coach that piloted them to that title, Frank Vogel. Vogel became the fall guy for the most disappointing season in Lakers’ history when in reality, a lot of the issues with this team were not his fault.

There always has to be a fall guy, though, and before an organization looks internally at how things are run at the top (something the Lakers should absolutely do), they are going to fire the head coach and pretend like that solves everything.

Now the Los Angeles Lakers are in the search for a new coach and there has been a myriad of names connected to the team. Assistant coaches, college coaches, coaches who are currently coaching another NBA team — there is a litany of names connected to LA.

There are already three potential head coach candidates that the Los Angeles Lakers should avoid at all costs.

Being the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers is the most prestigious job in the sport and as much of a dumpster fire as last season was, most coaches would dream of coaching the purple and gold.

The Lakers need to avoid hiring the coach with the biggest name that will make the biggest splash or will make LeBron James the happiest. They need to hire the best coach available, period. It really should not be that complicated, but with how this team has been run, it very well could be.

There are three potential candidates that have already been tied to the Lakers that the team should stay far away from during the hiring period and that is not even counting the outside chance that Kurt Rambis dusts off the clipboard to coach again.
