3. The Los Angeles Lakers making a bad head coach hire

This definitely seems like the most likely doomsday scenario for the Los Angeles Lakers this summer. Just based on how the front office has operated in recent years and the names we are already hearing that are connected to the Lakers, it really does seem like Jeanie Buss and co. are primed to make a bad hire to replace Frank Vogel.

The decision-making from the top has not been the best and to combat that the team has asked Phil Jackson to officially help advise with the coaching search. Look, Jackson is a legend and he is one of the greatest coaches of all time. He has his place in Lakers’ history but this is a massive mistake.

First of all, Jackson is out of touch. He has not been attached to the league for quite some time and the notion that he is going to come in and help make a great decision is silly. Why? Just look at his career as an executive for the New York Knicks. It was an atrocity! He is a great coach, not a great executive.

This just feels like it is all lining up for the Lakers to hire Doc Rivers if he is fired from the Philadelphia 76ers after losing in the NBA Playoffs. It feels like the Lakers are just chasing the big name.

The absolute worst-case scenario would be Kurt Rambis continuing his coaching career and taking over for the Lakers. While I don’t think the Lakers would be that foolish, Rambis is part of the decision-making process, so it cannot be ruled out.
