3. The Lakers cannot afford to wait

LeBron James is headed into what will be his 5th season with the Lakers and their championship window is quickly closing.  The Lakers did the right thing by mortgaging their future and acquiring Anthony Davis and making a myriad of win-now moves over the last three years. Winning a championship is obviously the ultimate goal and the Lakers accomplished that by making the expensive moves worth the rough seasons they will have when LeBron leaves.

All this to say the Lakers cannot afford to simply wait and see if the Anthony Davis we watched in the bubble re-emerges. We have watched for two seasons as this duo has been unable to stay on the court or elevate the Lakers back into serious playoff contention.

Sticking with the status quo isn’t going to win another ring for a Lakers team only interested in next season. Trading Anthony Davis might be a difficult move but it is the right decision for a Lakers team that must find ways to get younger and healthier this offseason.

Davis will forever be remembered in Laker lore for the magical run in the bubble that lifted another banner for Los Angeles. But it is time to admit this star pairing is no longer working and the Lakers must move on from Davis finding a way to acquire another star or a group of young players in return.  If LA is serious about winning another championship with LeBron it is a painful move the team simply has to make.
