The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Darvin Ham to replace Frank Vogel as the team’s next head coach. Los Angeles is looking to rebound after a painfully disappointing season and Ham is meant to be the guy that comes in and helps right the ship for the purple and gold.
There is a lot ot like about this hire for the Lakers. Throughout the offseason we here at Lake Show Life stressed the importance of the Lakers doing their homework and actually hiring a good head coach rather than simply hiring a big-name head coach with coaching experience.
Laker fans may have been saved by the fact that the Philadelphia 76ers decided to not fire Doc Rivers but all the matters in the end is that Ham is the head coach, not Rivers.
Now, the Los Angeles Lakers should look to add experience on Darvin Ham’s staff.
Jason Kidd was one of the most important pieces of the Lakers’ 2020 championship run as the team’s primary assistant coach. Many mocked the hire at the time but he went on to get a job with the Dallas Mavericks and lead them to the Western Conference Finals in year one.
Finding the right assistants to help Ham navigate his first season as a head coach in this league is going to be a hugely important decision for the Lakers. There are quite a few options for the Lakers to consider and we narrowed the list down to five candidates that could make sense for LA.
