Nearly every Los Angeles Lakers headline understandably will be focused on whether or not the team could land Kyrie Irving or Kevin Durant or both? Durant shook up the NBA world with his trade request as teams focused on free agency leaving every armchair GM putting together a trade that would land Durant on their roster.

While the ties to the Lakers are understandable the reality is the Lakers are very unlikely to land Durant. Even if the team managed to bring Kyrie to Los Angeles and reunite him with the LeBron the Lakers are going to need a strong roster capable of carrying the team when LeBron needs rest.

The biggest issue for the Lakers last season was their lack of depth and help around LeBron. This speaks volumes when you look back at LeBron’s history and the rosters he was able to draft to the playoffs.

As he is nearing his twentieth season the Lakers cannot afford to be passive the team must find a way to build a better roster and put help around LeBron.

The Los Angeles Lakers may look for familiar faces in free agency.

Three former Lakers, in particular, would help the front office push the team in the right direction and give them depth on the bench they have lacked since their 2020 championship season.
