3. The last thing the Lakers need is another star they can’t count on

Kevin Durant will soon be joining his fourth team despite signing a huge contract with the Brooklyn Nets. Let’s dream for a moment the Lakers could come up with a trade package the Nets would accept that wouldn’t include LeBron they would be left with two injury-prone stars closer to the end of their carers than the beginning.

The story of the Lakers over the last two years has been poor decisions in the free agent and trade markets and an inability to stay healthy. Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis were supposed to take the pressure off of James and give the Lakers stars they could rely on to keep James rested and healthy.

It hasn’t worked out that way with Davis failing to stay consistent or healthy and Westbrook being a disaster. Durant is a player you can count on to be great when he is on the court. Off the court, Durant is less predictable with his moves from OKC and Golden State as clear evidence.

Considering their recent misses when it comes to making big moves trading away your future for a player who may retire or demand his way out next season is a risk that any team will be facing that trades for Kevin.

Aside from the obvious lack of resources to get the deal done the Lakers should have a lot of trepidation trading for a player who has proven outside of Golden State he can’t be relied on.
