The Los Angeles Lakers turned the page on one of the darkest seasons in franchise history by showcasing some new talent in the summer league Saturday. While the NBA was turned on its ear with Kevin Durant’s trade request to the Brooklyn Nets. NBA analysts and clickbait artists found a way to tie the Los Angeles Lakers into the scenario.
"The Nets offered Kyrie Irving and Cam Thomas for Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Nunn, Austin Reaves and multiple first round picks but the Lakers rejected, sources tell The Athletic."
"Kyrie is focused on “forcing” his way to the Lakers, per Brian Windhorst. League executives have floated the possibility that the Lakers have a potential package to trade for both KD and Kyrie if they plan on playing together."
Now that we are done talking fantasy, how about some reality? The Los Angeles Lakers opened up their summer league schedule against the Miami Heat who missed the NBA Finals by a Jimmy Butler 3-point shot that missed six inches to the left. Lake Show Life wants to extend congratulations to Phil Handy, who is the head coach of the youngsters that will possibly in this franchise’s future and the only assistant coach that survived the ax by new head coach Darvin Ham.
The Lakers dominated the Heat 100-66 in a game that was over halfway through the first quarter.
As soon as the second unit for the Lake Show summer edition came in, they ran away with a 16-2 run that closed the chapter on this game.
The story of this game will be up for question whether the Lakers played well on the defensive end or was the Heat just bad? But hey, just because Miami played atrocious doesn’t mean the Lakers have to play on their level. Unlike the big club last year, these young players headed up by Phil Handy did not.
This is a special Lake Show Life Lessons presentation brought back for the summer leagues. This is different from the regular season because no one should care about the final score. The next several pages are specifically for the progress and analysis for the Lakers draft pick in Max Christie, the two-way players in Scotty Pippen Jr. and Shareef O’Neal, the free-agent signee Cole Swider and finally, the South Bay Lakers that could be the next Alex Caruso being a diamond in the rough.
