Lakers’ Anthony Davis is revamping his jumper with well-renowned coach
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off of one of the worst seasons in franchise history and a big reason for the team’s lack of success was Anthony Davis. Davis could not stay healthy last season and when he was on the court, particularly early in the season, it was not pretty.
It was not really AD’s fault as the Lakers bringing in Russell Westbrook really killed the floor spacing of the team and forced AD to change his game. Davis became more of a jump-shooter with Westbrook on the floor and the results were not pretty. AD’s numbers were down and he was the worst jump-shooter in the league.
The ideal scenario is to have Davis take fewer shots moving forward, but he still has to be able to space the floor and keep defenders honest. That is what has made him so great throughout his career. In order to do that, Davis is revamping his jumper this offseason with one of the absolute best in the business.

Chris Matthews, commonly known as “Lethal Shooter” in the NBA world, is one of the league’s most well-renowned shooting coaches. Matthews has worked with a litany of top stars and draft picks to improve their shooting game at the NBA level.
This commitment from Anthony Davis is exactly what the Lakers need to see.
It was not that long ago that AD got slammed on social media for saying that he had not picked up a basketball in the offseason in months. Coming off of arguably the worst season of his career, many have just expected AD to be in the lab working on his game like LeBron James would be.
Davis quickly got to work after the internet butchered him for that quote and this video with Lethal Shooter is a great sign for Lakers fans. As great as LeBron James is and while Kyrie Irving might be around the corner, the Lakers are only going to go as far as Anthony Davis takes them.
Davis was the best player on the team during the 2020 Finals run, even with LeBron James winning the Finals MVP award. He is such a dominant player and so hard to gameplan against when he is at his best and the team needs him to return to that form.
Not just for next season’s sake, but for the sake of the future of the franchise. AD has been touted as the franchise piece to build around once LeBron leaves and the franchise can’t feel great about that after last season.
This is a massive prove-it season for Anthony Davis. Luckily, he seems to be putting in the work.
