Los Angeles Lakers Summer League action is officially in the books as the purple and gold played its last game in Las Vegas against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. The Lakers beat the Mavericks 95-84 to finish 3-2 in Summer League action.

The team results don’t matter at all as the focus is instead on the young players. Los Angeles has historically been good at finding and developing young talent and those who played in the Summer League could be in the NBA rotation as soon as next season.

In fact, there are three Summer League standouts that may have earned a bigger role in the rotation this season. Los Angeles does have one roster spot to give to one of these players. There is also the possibility of more roster spots opening if the Lakers trade more players in the inevitable Kyrie Irving trade.

3 Lakers Summer Leauge players who earned a bigger role in the rotation:

1. Cole Swider

This one is a no-brainer. The Los Angeles Lakers do not have nearly as much three-point shooting as they should have heading into this season and Cole Swider proved in the Summer League that he can knock down shots from three like it is nothing.

Swider made 28 of 53 three-point shots in his eight Summer League games split between the California Classic and Las Vegas. It is a small sample size, but it is impossible to ignore a 52.8% three-point rate, especially when Swider shot over 41% from three at Syracuse last season.

The 23-year-old forward is a perfect wing option for the Lakers and he can play either the three or the four. As promising as Wenyen Gabriel was last season for the team last season, Swider offers much more to Los Angeles than Gabriel does.

Swider truly has the potential to be the standout undrafted free agent of this draft class with his ability to knock down shots. Of course, the Los Angeles Lakers found him.
