Lakers fans will love how Kyrie Irving feels about Steve Nash and Sean Marks

The Los Angeles Lakers would like to finalize their roster for the upcoming season, but they’re kind of at the Brooklyn Nets mercy in that regard.
Heavily linked with a trade for Kyrie Irving, who’s reportedly open to the idea of reuniting with LeBron James, the Lakers are stuck in neutral until Brooklyn comes to a settlement on Kevin Durant’s future.
The Durant trade rumors cooled down in recent weeks, but the disgruntled superstar doubled down on his trade request in a meeting with Nets owner Joe Tsai, making Tsai choose between him or Steve Nash and GM Sean Marks.
The underlying message? Durant has lost faith in the Nets’ direction and doesn’t think Nash and Marks are suited to steer the franchise in the right direction.
It would appear Durant isn’t alone in that regard. According to a report from the New York Post, Irving feels similar about Nash and Marks, with one source saying “Irving hates these guys” and “feels that Nash is terrible and Marks is bad.”
Kyrie Irving’s feelings about Nets head coach Steve Nash and GM Sean Marks will delight Lakers fans.
It’s admittedly difficult to gauge Irving’s current standing with the Nets.
A week ago, SNY’s Ian Begley reported Irving is in a “good place and comfortable” with Brooklyn due to talks he’s had over a possible contract extension. Of course, this scoop from the New York Post indicates Kyrie would sign off on a Lakers trade without even giving it a second thought.
Whatever the case may be, Lakers fans will take anything at this point if it improves the possibility of offloading Westbrook’s contract. There are seemingly no shortage of potential third parties who would be willing to inherit the remainder of Westbrook’s deal, leaving the Nets as the only party holding things up.
Of course, Brooklyn is stuck between a rock and a hard place right now.
Does Tsai keep things simple and build for the future by trading Durant or does he keep the team’s championship window open by keeping Durant (and presumably Irving) and hand Nash, who hasn’t shown much as a head coach, and Marks, whose trade for James Harden looks like an abomination, the pink slip?
It’s anyone’s guess, but it seems easier (at least in theory) to trade Durant and Irving and keep Nash and Marks at the helm.
That’s the outcome Lakers fans are hoping for, because time is slowly running out for the front office to trade Westbrook and equip LeBron and Anthony Davis with a third star that can help them get back into contention.
If nothing else, this report improves Irving’s chances of getting traded and the Lakers feel like the only plausible fit for the polarizing guard.
