Dennis Schroder may have given Lakers fans a hint about his future
By Jason Reed
Despite last playing for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2021 NBA Playoffs, Dennis Schroder has been one of the more talked about names connected to the Lakers for the 2022-23 season.
The veteran point guard remains unsigned and there have been connections between him and the team this offseason. Heck, a reunion with Schroder was not even ruled out after the team traded for Patrick Beverley.
The last thing the Lakers need is another guard right now but there is a path in which Schroder could sign with the team. If Russell Westbrook is traded then Schroder naturally makes sense to add more point guard depth to the roster. There is also the possibility of the Lakers outright telling Westbrook to go home and not play.
It seems unlikely now, but it is possible. And as unlikely as it may seem, Schroder himself might be sending Lakers fans hints on his potential future. That is what it seems like he is doing during the FIBA EuroBasket 2022.
Dennis Schroder’s daughter was wearing a Lakers jersey during EuroBasket.
Dennis Schroder, who is playing for Germany, was seen with his daughter wearing a Lakers “Schroder Jr.” jersey during Germany’s game against Greece. The “Jr” was likely on the jersey for his son, Dennis Schroder Jr.
This caught the eye of some fans who think that Schroder might be trying to send a message about where he wants to play next season. The fact of the matter is that Schroder will play wherever he can and he is not going to hold out for the Lakers.
Plus, Schroder’s son was seen wearing a Rockets jersey earlier in the EuroBasket tournament. It does not seem like Schroder is trying to send any kind of message to fans, but you never know. Fans are going to come up with wild conspiracy theories over anything.
Regardless, Schroder should find a home this season. While he might not be an $84 million point guard, he is still definitely a rotational guard that should find a home somewhere.
His play during EuroBasket is certainly helping, as he is seventh in the entire tournament in scoring, averaging 20.2 points per game. However, his 39.6% shooting percentage is far from ideal.
