When does 2022 Lakers training camp start?

After a long and grueling offseason that did not include a Russell Westbrook trade, the Los Angeles Lakers are ready to get back in action for the 2022-23 season. The one hope for Los Angeles is that the team can play far better than last season.

Before games matter, though, the team will get its feet wet in the preseason. And before the preseason begins, the team will kick off training camp.

Lakers training camp is very interesting this season with so many new faces and the ever-looming Westbrook situation that hangs over the entire franchise. It will be interesting to see how it plays out and there is a lot to know about training camp itself.

When does 2022 Lakers training camp start?

Lakers training camp will officially kick off on Tuesday, September 27. The day prior is media day, where players, coaches and executives will be present to answer questions in front of the media.

Los Angeles has already started a player-led minicamp in San Diego before official training camp begins on Tuesday. LeBron James and co. are looking to get ahead of the curve with all of the new faces in LA.

Where is Lakers training camp located?

Lakers training camp takes place at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo. This is the same place where the South Bay G League affiliate plays its home games during the season. It is the smallest venue for any G League team, as the venue only seats 750 people.

How long is Lakers training camp?

The Lakers have less than a week from the start of training camp on Tuesday, September 27 to the team’s first preseason game on Monday, October 3. Los Angeles has six preseason games in total, with the last coming on Friday, October 14.

The 2022-23 season kicks off on Tuesday, October 18. This gives the team three full weeks to gel together with new players and a new head coach before the game actually starts to matter.

Is Lakers training camp open to the public?

Training camp is not open to the public. At this time, the team has not announced any open practices for fans to watch. The only way to see the team in action before the season begins is in the preseason.

How to watch Lakers training camp:

The team will be streaming media day and portions of training camp on the official team website. The first stream will be on Monday, September 26 at 1 p.m. PDT.

What is the Lakers training camp roster?

As it stands, the team has 14 players signed to the active roster with three players on training camp deals and two players on two-way deals. Teams are allotted 20 total training camp roster spots and LA is currently at 19.

Outside of the active roster players, the likes of Jay Huff, Javante McCoy and Fabian White Jr. will be with the team on training camp deals. Cole Swider and Scotty Pippen Jr. are signed to two-way contracts.
