The Los Angeles Lakers are not expected to do much this upcoming season, even by their own fans. Los Angeles is coming off of arguably the most disappointing season in franchise history and the offseason did not yield enough change for fans to expect anything different.

While things are looking bleak, there still can be promising surprises on the Lakers roster. Last season, for example, Malik Monk ended up being one of the best value signings in the NBA. He priced himself out of LA, but he was a great signing nonetheless.

If the team is going to accomplish anything this season there are going to have to be players who step up and shock the NBA world with great performances. There are certain candidates on the roster who have a better chance than others of doing just that.

3 players on the Lakers roster that could shock the world this season:

1. Thomas Bryant

Thomas Bryant is a quality NBA center that the Lakers should have never let go of in the first place. Amid Rob Pelinka’s shuffling at the center position, he let perhaps the team’s best G League player go for absolutely nothing in return.

Bryant played well with the Washington Wizards and earned a new contract as a result. However, injuries then caught up with the big man and most of the casual NBA fanbase forgot what he can bring to the table.

He is by no means going to be an all-star center or anything for the Lakers but he absolutely can be an above-average five, especially with LeBron James. LeBron has a tendency to improve the play of centers, so Bryant could have a career year in LA.

What makes Bryant such a great fit on this team as well is the fact that he can space the floor for a five and will play his way into more minutes as a result. He is not an elite sharpshooter by any stretch of the imagination, but he can shoot to space out the floor.
