Lakers fans are going berserk over unacceptable Russell Westbrook clip
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers are nearly through the preseason and currently have a 1-5 record. The team recently lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a game where Russell Westbrook did not do much and continued to look worse than the other guard options on the roster.
Westbrook and the team sold this idea of a newfound player this season and it has not taken long for the few optimistic fans to sniff out the schtick for what it is. Westbrook is the same player, and things don’t seem to be going well in LA.
There was a really bad visual in the team’s loss to the Timberwolves that shows that Westbrook might be on a bit of an island on the Lakers. And can you blame him? As frustrating as he is to watch, it is hard for a player to play for a team that is openly going to trade him the second they find a trade that works for them.
Nothing shows that he is on an island more than not joining the team’s pre-game huddle. It would be one thing if he was on the side talking to Darvin Ham or LeBron James. He is on the side, by himself, like the kid on the playground who does not belong.
That is not the only bad Russell Westbrook clip that Lakers fans are dissecting.
As you can see in the tweet above, there is another Russell Westbrook clip that Lakers fans have been going berserk over. While Patrick Beverley was trying to rally the troops after a foul, Westbrook was the only one on the court not cooperating and not initially listening to Beverley’s pleas to come over.
Now, in this specific instance he was talking to the referee about the foul that was called on him, so there was at least some kind of built-in excuse. However, when you couple this with the pre-game footage of him being on an island it is hard to defend the former MVP.
And Lakers fans are not defending him, they are letting him have it. Scroll over to the Lakers subreddit and look at some of the responses to the clip. Responses range from “I’m done with Russ” to “this is why he should have never entered camp with LA”.
It is not a good look for Russell Westbrook or the team and the season has not even started yet. How can we get behind the idea of LA having a successful season when it already seems to be unraveling at the seams in the preseason?
Until Westbrook is traded, both for his sake and the sake of the team, it is impossible to buy into the Lakers being successful.
