5 free-agent flops the Lakers were right to avoid this summer
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers have not gotten off to a great start this season. While there is still a lot of basketball left to play, the team has been disappointing this season, especially considering they can look pretty good when they are playing at their best.
While the options were limited for Rob Pelinka and the front office this summer, there were still some big misses for the organization. The Lakers passed on several free agents that were in the team’s price range and those players are making Pelinka look silly.
To be fair to Pelinka, there are also free agents that the Lakers passed on that have since been flops this season. In those instances, the team absolutely deserves credit for not taking the bait.
5 free-agent flops the Lakers were right to avoid:
1. Moses Brown
I’ll be honest, I was all-in on the Moses Brown train this summer. Brown was waived by the Cleveland Cavaliers and on paper, he would have been the perfect cheap young center for the Los Angeles Lakers to bring in.
While he is raw, the potential of his rim-protecting and rebounding prowess would have made him a good addition to this team off the bench. Instead, the team went with Thomas Bryant and Damian Jones. While those two have not added much yet this season, it was the right direction to go.
Brown instead signed with the Los Angeles Clippers and has not really played much this season. This is not a case of him necessarily playing poorly as he has only played a total of 37 minutes. However, it is clear that he is not NBA rotation material and he would have just been a wasted spot on the team’s roster this season.
