Anthony Davis went to work against the Washington Wizards on Sunday, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the team’s eighth win in the last 10 games. Davis has been the main reason for the Lakers’ success as of late and his game on Sunday was his magnum opus.

Anthony Davis scored 55 points with 17 rebounds and three blocks. He shot 73.3% from the field and made two of three three-point attempts. It has rightfully put Davis in the thick of the MVP discussion with a quarter of the season played.

This wasn’t just Davis’ best game of the season or his best game since he put on the purple and gold. It isn’t just one of the most impressive games by any player this season. In fact, this is one of the greatest games in NBA history.

Davis finished with a Game Score of 49.5. Game Score goes back to the 1973-74 season and is a statistic that is meant to measure how good a singular performance is. AD’s mar of 49.5 is significant as it ranks 39th in NBA history. That’s right — Anthony Davis just made history.

Anthony Davis has been playing at a ridiculous level for the Los Angeles Lakers.

As already mentioned, the Lakers’ current hot streak is a direct result of Anthony Davis playing at an insane level. This is the best that Davis has looked since the Orlando bubble, where he was the best player on the entire planet.

It is clear that Davis went into this season with something to prove and he has more than proved it. He has averaged 34.2 points, 15.4 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 1.3 steals per game over the last 10 games. When Davis is at his best, there is not a single player in the league that has the same two-way impact.

Of course, the biggest worry with Davis is his health. While he has been playing at an insane level this season, injuries are always at risk with Davis. He has been one of the most injured stars in the sport and big men don’t typically become less injury-prone as they head into their 30s.

So as great as this current stretch is, Lakers fans have to remember the bigger picture and hope that the team is doing all that it can to not put too much on Davis’ plate and make sure that he can be healthy for a potential play run next April.
