The Los Angeles Lakers have been connected to quite a few players over the last few months as trade rumors have run rampant around the organization. That is what happens when you put yourself in the position that the Lakers’ front office did.

One of the more intriguing players that have garnered reported interest from the purple and gold is former lottery pick, Cam Reddish. Los Angeles was reported to have interest in Reddish when he was still a member of the Atlanta Hawks before he was traded to the New York Knicks.

The possibility of the team bringing in Reddish was once again talked about over the summer as well. However, nothing ultimately came to be and Reddish began the season in New York on a pretty great note.

That situation has since turned sour for Reddish, who is not getting the playing time that he likely wants from the Knicks. It may just be a matter of time until the former 10th-overall pick is moved, giving the Lakers a chance to steal him at a great value.

Cam Reddish would be a fantastic trade addition for the Los Angeles Lakers.

This is developing into a great situation for the Lakers. The more that Reddish’s situation in New York unfolds the less he is going to be worth via trade. For a team that is so desperately trying to improve for the cheapest cost possible, Reddish presents a massive opportunity.

The potential is still there. Reddish has flashed is plenty of times and was actually putting together a more all-around season with the Hawks last year before being traded. The Lakers need wings and they have also shown to get the most out of young players. Just look at Lonnie Walker IV.

It is not crazy to think that with a consistent role in Los Angeles learning from one of the greatest of all time that Reddish’s play would improve. The foundation is certainly there and there is no better team to build on that foundation than the Lakers.

And it might just cost a second-round pick. Since Reddish is on an expiring contract and is not even in the rotation the Knicks really cannot ask for much. They have absolutely no leverage in this situation. A trade package of Kendrick Nunn and a second-round pick is probably the best they will get.

Or who knows, perhaps Reddish could be part of something bigger between the Lakers and Knicks that accomplishes more things for both teams. Regardless of what it is, this situation is unfolding perfectly for the purple and gold and they must strike while the iron is hot.
