The Los Angeles Lakers have not had the kind of season that fans were hoping for this season. Things finally started to look good before Anthony Davis injured his foot to render himself out of action for the next month-plus.

There is some optimism in the fanbase that the team can keep things afloat while Davis is out to then gain momentum once he returns. While that would be great, the optimism around the Lakers is typically tied to fans overrating the roster itself.

Not to be the Debbie downer in a season that is already pretty frustrating for fans but there are three players in particular who have been overrated by the fanbase this season.

3 most overrated players on the Los Angeles Lakers roster:

3. Wenyen Gabriel

Wenyen Gabriel brings energy to the team every time he is on the floor and he is far better than the other depth options that the team can employ. That being said, Gabriel is often treated with reverence, with fans putting him on the untouchable list for trades.

That is a bit silly. While he has been a positive player this season, there are a lot of players in the league that can offer a similar dynamic as Gabriel if the Lakers needed it. The fact that he is playing a big role on this team, despite never really having a role elsewhere in his career, tells you what you need to know about this rotation.

Los Angeles obviously should not be actively shopping Gabriel and he is still a positive presence, don’t get that part twisted. But this idea that he is an extremely important role player that adds this great dynamic to the team is a bit far-fetched. He is a serviceable backup big.
