Christmas has come and gone and for many, it represents the true start of the NBA season. While we are already over a third of the way through the season, after Christmas is when things really start to ramp up and the contenders separate from the pretenders. That is happening to the Los Angeles Lakers as we speak.

Without Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers look like massive pretenders. Any ounce of optimism that was around the team has quickly subsided as LA has lost four games in a row without AD and three of them have not been particularly close.

Lakers fans may feel the season start to slip away from them. Regardless of that feeling, there is still a Monday Lakers news roundup to dish out.

Lakers news roundup:

  • Draymond Green reportedly has a “pretty strong” chance of leaving the Golden State Warriors after the season. The Lakers were named as one potential landing spot by league executives, with the other team being the Detroit Pistons.
  • In the Lakers’ 124-115 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas the team allowed Dallas to score 51 points in the third quarter alone. That tied a franchise record for the Mavericks for the most point scored in a single quarter.
  • LeBron James’ scoring has increased since Davis suffered his injury. James is averaging 34 points per game since the Davis injury. If that pace continues, LeBron will pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most points in NBA history in 19 games. That would be on January 31 in Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks.
  • The Mavericks unveiled a Dirk Nowitzki statue ahead of Sunday’s game against the Lakers and LeBron had nothing but extremely complimentary things to say about his former NBA Finals foe.

NBA news roundup:

  • According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Philadelphia’s James Harden is seriously considering a return to the Houston Rockets if he does not re-sign with the 76ers after the season.
  • After already missing time due to injury this season, Devin Booker was removed from Sunday’s Suns-Nuggets game in the first quarter with a groin injury.
  • The Golden State Warriors continued their rivalry against the Memphis Grizzlies with a big win on Christmas day. Klay Thompson had some interesting words for Memphis following the win.

The Los Angeles Lakers will be back in action on the road on Tuesday against the Orlando Magic. Los Angeles will return home after the new year on January 4 against the Miami Heat.
