Clippers’ interest in Russell Westbrook is comedy gold for Lakers fans
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers officially traded Russell Westbrook on Wednesday as part of a three-team deal with the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves. Westbrook’s last memory as a Laker will be a reported heated exchange between him and head coach Darvin Ham.
Westbrook is being sent to the Jazz and it is widely believed that the Jazz are going to offer the former MVP a buyout. Westbrook would then be free to sign with any NBA team on the league minimum.
After seeing Westbrook play this season, it is safe for Lakers fans to question if any teams would even be interested. There certainly are interested teams and the first potential suitor is an absolute doozy for Lakers fans: the Los Angeles Clippers.
Russell Westbrook signing with the Clippers is the funniest outcome for Lakers fans.
It quickly became clear after the Lakers initially traded for Russell Westbrook that it was not going to work out. That being said, most fans were certainly convincing themselves of Westbrook as a legitimate asset for the team before he actually stepped on the floor.
That is what makes the Clippers’ potential interest in Westbrook so hysterical for fans of the purple and gold. We have all been in the exact same situation where we start to convince ourselves that Westbrook will be different on our favorite team and that it will work out.
If Westbrook signs with the Lakers you already know there will be countless Clippers fans saying that they will fix him and that it will be even sweeter to beat the Lakers with Russ on the roster. In reality, they are in for a headache as the moment things don’t go Westbrook’s way he will make a scene.
It would be so much more fun for Lakers fans to see Westbrook stay in Los Angeles and potentially derail the Clippers’ season. That is much more entertaining then him going to a small-market team like the Charlotte Hornets to put up garbage-time stats.
And hey, if he does stay in LA then fans could even cop some cheaper tickets at the Crypto.com arena to potentially boo Westbrook in his new uniform. He will certainly become one of the most hated rivals among the fanbase if he stays in Los Angeles.
