After months of speculation, the Los Angeles Lakers finally made the move that fans had been begging for: trading Russell Westbrook. All things considered, it was a great trade for the Lakers as they got off of Westbrook and got younger in the process all for the price of a protected first-round pick.

Westbrook’s tenure with the Utah Jazz is never going to get off the ground as a buyout is potentially looming. There is not a player in the league that is as polarizing as Westbrook and if he is bought out there are going to be teams that talk themselves into him. Let’s dive into the most likely suitors.

3. Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers instantly emerged as one of the potential teams that could sign Westbrook when he was first traded by the Lakers. This would be hilarious for Lakers fans, as Westbrook would stay in LA and an entirely new fanbase would talk itself into him.

The Clippers certainly need a point guard as they no longer have a traditional point guard on the roster with Bones Hyland being the best option. Westbrook would provide that point guard option and in theory, could come off the bench for the Clippers like he did with the Lakers.

What Clippers fans seem to be forgetting is that the team just traded John Wall to get him out of LA and Westbrook is essentially a slightly better version of Wall. All of the same problems that existed with Wall would be back (and could be worse with Westbrook’s style of play).

While the Clippers are definitely a potential destination, they might be less likely than the other suitors because of Westbrook’s previous tenure in LA. Nobody can blame Russ if he wants to get as far away as possible from Los Angeles after the last season and a half.
