The Los Angeles Lakers have a week left of the 2022-23 season and it is going to be a hectic one. The team is currently looking to carve out a path in the NBA Playoffs and make some noise as a legitimate contender in the wide-open Western Conference.

There has not been this much interest in the Lakers for two years. The 2021-22 season was a disaster with most fans checked out by the time April rolled around. This time is different as the Lake Show has legitimate potential to make something special happen.

As a result, the Lakers news right now is far more important than it was a year ago. Here is everything you need to know in our Monday Lakers news roundup.

Lakers news roundup:

  • D’Angelo Russell was held out of the second half of Sunday’s win against the Houston Rockets with what was deemed left foot soreness. Head coach Darvin Ham instantly put any worries about Russell to bed, telling reporters that it was only precautionary that Russell sat out and that if the Lakers really needed him to play he could have.
  • Austin Reaves’ first signature shoe has been revealed and it is scheduled to be released later this summer. Reaves signed with Chinese shoe company Rigorer last year and his first signature show is fittingly named the Rigorer AR1.
  • Anthony Davis was named Western Conference Player of the Week while Mikal Bridges took home the honor in the Eastern Conference. Davis averaged 38.7 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in three games last week.

NBA news roundup:

  • Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins is expected to be back with the team early this week. Wiggins has been out of action for 21 games due to a family matter.
  • The NBA and NBAPA agreed to a new labor deal over the weekend that will keep labor peace in tact for the rest of the decade. As part of the new agreement, players will no longer be punished for marijuana use, players must play at least 65 games to qualify for MVP and All-NBA selections and creates a new tax apron, among other changes.
  • The New York Knicks have officially clinched a trip to the NBA Playoffs, giving the team its second playoff berth in the last 10 seasons.
