Dillon Brooks has become one of the most hated rival players for Los Angeles Lakers fans during the NBA Playoffs. Brooks already had a reputation heading into the series and he leaned into that reputation. Brooks did not shy away from smack-talking LeBron and even hitting him below the belt in Game 3.
The Grizzlies’ role player obviously did not take any NBA history lessons before this series as every player to smack talk the Lakers in recent years has paid for it. Heck, the 2020 NBA Finals run solely consisted of the Lake Show making other players eat their words and actions.
Regardless, it is safe to say that Lakers fans are not fond of Brooks at the moment and that was more than obvious in Game 4 when he got booed out of the building every time he touched the ball. Fans have taken it a step further, though, and have started coming at Brooks the same way he came at LeBron.
This includes comparing Brooks to fictional characters who might not be the most favorable to be compared to.
"I knew I recognized him from somewhere by u/craigp5986 in lakers"
Lakers fans savagely compare Dillon Brooks to Star Trek’s Worf
The worst part is that fans in the comments were actually defending Worf from this comparison, making it even more obvious how much disdain this fanbase has for the pesky Grizzlies role player.
This is all in good fun and quite frankly, Brooks brought it upon himself. Even though he tries to blame everyone else for this perceived villain persona that he has, it is his actions and comments that have directly given him the reputation he has in the league.
If you play with fire you are going to get burned and with a 3-1 lead in the series, Lakers fans are more than comfortable burning Brooks for their own entertainment. We all know that he would be doing the same thing if the results were flipped and the Grizzlies were up 3-1 in the series.
Hopefully, the purple and gold can take care of business and eliminate the Grizzlies sooner rather than later. If not, poking fun at Brooks is going to give him and Grizzlies fans more ammunition to fire right back.
