Lakers fans rightfully slam Anthony Davis after no-showing Game 2
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers were able to win a massive Game 1 against the Golden State Warriors because of a dominant display by Anthony Davis on Tuesday night. After an up-and-down series, Davis looked like the 2020 bubble version of himself in Game 1 against Golden State.
Unfortunately, the up-and-down nature of Davis’ postseason thus far extended into Game 2 on Thursday night. Just like in Game 2 against Memphis, Davis failed to show up for his team. He wasn’t just bad for his standards, he was outright bad.
Davis scored 11 points on 5-11 shooting with seven rebounds and four assists. AD did not play at all in the fourth quarter as Darvin Ham went to his bench unit but Davis still played 33 minutes, only sitting for three minutes in the first three quarters.
Lakers fans rightfully slam Anthony Davis for his play in Game 2.
It is safe to say that Lakers fans are not happy with Anthony Davis after his performance in Game 2. This team goes as far as Davis will take them and his poor showing on Thursday night explains how the Lakers got blown out so easily.
What makes this kind of showing so frustrating is seeing just how dominant Davis can be when it is going right. The Davis that played on Tuesday night was simply a different player than the Davis who played on Thursday. Are we sure he doesn’t have a twin brother?
It is unfortunate too because a lot of Davis’ struggles in his bad games seem to be based on passiveness. It would be one thing if he was a backcourt player who wasn’t hitting his shots on a specific night. That happens all the time. But there should be a baseline of production for Davis that he should never dip below.
Yet he puts together such a bad game after such a great game just two days ago.
Luckily, this does not seem to be an every-game thing for Davis, so fans don’t have to lose sleep over him not showing up in Game 3. It would be shocking if Davis had yet another horrible game back in LA on Saturday.
But at the end of the day, Davis needs to cut out these woeful performances. There is absolutely no reason for an elite player like himself to literally be a non-factor in a game that could have given his team a massive lead in an important playoff series.
Now, the Lakers will be fighting to avoid falling behind in the series as the Warriors have the chance to take control once more in Game 3.
