Having ties to a franchise can mean everything to a free agent. The Los Angeles Lakers have shown this in the past by bringing in players that have some sort of connection with the team.

One of the best connections to have is with the head coach. Darvin Ham spent many years as an assistant under Mike Budenholzer which connects him with many players throughout the league. Just like Dennis Schroder this past season, that could land someone a job in LA.

There are several free agents on the market who have ties to Ham from his pre-LA coaching days. Three of which stand out above the rest as potential targets for the purple and gold.

3 free agents with ties to Darvin Ham the Lakers could sign:

1. Brook Lopez

Brook Lopez would be a dream addition for the purple and gold as it does not seem overly likely that he will leave the Bucks. But the NBA is a wild league and things can change quickly, especially considering the Bucks are undergoing a coaching change.

If Lopez does end up leaving because of said coaching change it wouldn’t be absurd to think he would join the former assistant that he played for in Milwaukee. That would provide a level of comfort and familiarity for Lopez that other teams would not offer.

Lopez would be absolutely perfect for the purple and gold. His defensive impact alongside Anthony Davis would be impossible to measure and he would also offer the perfect offensive fit next to Davis to space the floor. He offers a significantly better version of what Mo Bamba theoretically added.

It would be a dream addition and while it isn’t super likely, it is possible.
